Monday
I forgot to mention that Jesse Saint was in church yesterday with his family. They are sort of like the "Hollywood Stars" of Shell....Apparently Steve Saint had just been here a couple of weeks ago too. There is a model yellow piper up on a frame in the town square here. Some of the younger folks here don't even know what it signifies. They were going to put a statue of Nate Saint, but many thought that the plane was more significant. I like the plane. It looks neat.
Chapel at the school today was fun. Lots of young teachers. It seemed like the ideal school.
This afternoon, the boys and I went in search of the butcher for some meat. I asked for some "pollo" (chicken) and she went behind the counter and brought out this long, floppy-necked yellow bird with head and everything. It looked exactly like those yellow rubber chickens you can get. I wondered if the boys would say anything, but they didn't. Like we always go to the Co-op and get our chickens that way!!
They wanted to buy some bananas, so I sent them into the market by themselves and they knew how to ask for 10 bananas in spanish. I gave them a handful of change and told them about how much it would be (5 cents a banana). It didn't go real smooth but they came out with a bag of 10 bananas!!
Tomorrow morning we are going with the Head Nurse over to the village school to do some weighing, measuring and eye checks on the students there in prep for Wednesday when the Pediatrician and eye dr. are going in to give worm medicine etc.
Thursday we are going to the Preschool to help out. Don't know what day we are starting at the orphanage.
Thanks everyone for your comments on the blog. It's great to hear from you!

Hi Everyone! So good to read about all your adventures! Glad to hear you are all safe. Is that really where you are staying? It looks a bit breezy. What things do you find really different there? Are there many Christians helping you or living there in general?
Alissa loves to go out in the rain just like your kids. Harvest is going really slow here as it seems to rain every other day. Will you be celebrating Thanksgiving there? I am looking forward to having all my family home!!! I should get to bed. We are praying for you and for Gary to overcome the language barrier. Maybe give us some other specific things there to pray for! Take care, Lynna
